Germany Rules Out Sanctions Against Nord Stream

Following confirmation that the prominent Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, was poisoned using the same military grade nerve agent used in other prominent attacks by the Russian State, notably against the Skripals in the UK, Germany has indicated it will take action against the Kremlin.

However, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has blocked any proposals to remove the 'Nord Stream 2' oil and gas pipeline, from future deals with the Russian government.

This will likely cause uproar amongst those who view Moscow as a pariah. However, the German economy has allowed itself to become dependent of Russian gas and the economic ramifications of failing to give the go ahead for the pipeline are arguably more important to German interests than any assassination attempts by the Kremlin's henchmen.
